Detectives have issued a safety warning after a 16-year-old girl was subjected to a sex assault in Ripon.
She was walking alone towards Borrage Green Lane when she was approached from behind by a man on 5 December.
He pulled her onto a bridle path at the end of the lane where he sexually assaulted her.
Detectives are appealing for information about the attack and are urging people to take care when going out for the night.
Det Con Kirsten Aldridge, of Ripon CID, said: "I would like to reassure the residents of Ripon that this is an isolated incident and we are conducting extensive investigations to ensure this man is caught as soon as possible."
She added: "I would recommend that members of the public are vigilant and follow basic safety precautions.
"Try and avoid walking alone at night, but if you do have to go out ensure that you notify a friend or relative and advise them of the route you are taking."
The attacker is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, about 6ft tall with a chubby build and black hair.
