Man in court over Scarborough flat death

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a body was found at a flat in Scarborough, police have said.

The body of 48-year-old Gary Francis Virr was found in his ground-floor flat in the Eastborough area of the town on Thursday night.

John David Stamford, 51, was remanded in custody by Scarborough magistrates on Monday and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

An inquest into Mr Virr's death is due to be opened later this week.
