Man and woman die and two hurt in North Yorkshire crash

A man and a woman have died in a car crash in North Yorkshire, police have said.

The collision between the Peugeot 306 and an Audi A8 took place on the B6165 Ripley to Pateley Bridge road on Tuesday at about 1310 GMT.

Police said a 37-year-old woman from Knaresborough and a 32-year-old man from Harrogate died at the scene.

The woman was driving the Peugeot and the man was a passenger in the vehicle. Police are appealing for witnesses.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said a man and a woman travelling in the Audi were taken to Harrogate District Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said they are aged in their 50s and from Grassington.

The road was closed for six hours after the collision.

Sgt Neil Campbell from North Yorkshire Police's roads policing group, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnesses the collision, or seen either vehicle prior to it, to come forward, as I urgently need to speak to them."
