Investigations are under way after a house fire in North Yorkshire in which a man died.

Five fire appliances were sent to the house in Birch Grove, Harrogate, at about 0130 GMT on Thursday.

North Yorkshire Fire Service said the man was found in a first-floor room. He has not yet been identified.

North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have started a joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

A fire service spokesman said crews remained at the scene.

He said the house was so badly damaged it would need to be shored up.
