'Bomb alert' building evacuated in York


Police evacuated an office building and cordoned off parts of York city centre after the discovery of a suspect package.

Army bomb disposal teams checked the package, found in the mail room of insurance company Aviva on Rougier Street near Lendal Bridge at 0720 GMT.

The package was found not to be dangerous by 0955 GMT and staff were allowed back into the building.

City centre roads closed off during the alert have been reopened.
