Walmgate hammer attack man in coma
A man is in a coma and described as "seriously ill" after being attacked with a hammer.
North Yorkshire Police said the 45-year-old was assaulted somewhere close to the Walmgate and Lawrence Street area of York on Tuesday evening.
A hammer is being examined by forensic officers and a 25-year-old woman and 56-year-old man are in custody.
A 47-year-old man and 45-year-old woman who were questioned have been released by police.
Insp Ian Dyer said: "A man is seriously ill in hospital and we need to establish how he came to sustain his injuries.
"I am urging anyone who witnessed the assault or was in the Walmgate or Lawrence Street areas between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday, 27 March, to get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers."
