River Swale dinghy death man identified as Mark Allan

A man whose body was found on the bank of a North Yorkshire river on Saturday has been identified by police.

The body was found next to the River Swale near Catterick Bridge at about 09:00 BST.

Police confirmed his identity as Mark Allan, 35, from Brompton-on-Swale, who had been reported missing from his home at about 04:50 BST on Saturday.

Police believe he used an inflatable dinghy to venture on to the river while it was particularly fast-flowing.

His body was found after a search was carried out by police, a mountain rescue team and the West Yorkshire Police helicopter.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at a later date to establish the cause of Mr Allan's death, said North Yorkshire Police.

There were no suspicious circumstances to his death, the force added.
