CCTV at Seamer Horse Fair

CCTV cameras are to be used for the first time to monitor an annual North Yorkshire horse fair, Scarborough Borough Council has announced.

Seamer Horse Fair will take place on Sunday, 15 July, near the B1261 between Seamer and Crossgates in Scarborough.

Managers will be employed on the site 24 hours a day to try to minimise disturbances to local residents.

A council spokesperson said the cameras would make travellers and residents "feel safer".

Facilities for travellers, including toilets and refuse collections, will be provided from 9 July.

A water supply and horse trough will be provided in a nearby dell.

The official site was set up in 2010 after travellers pitched on private land near houses in Crossgates the previous year.
