York racegoer who died in stand fall is named

A man who died in what police described as a "tragic accident" after falling in the grandstand at York racecourse has been named.

Jack Yates, 21, from Bradford, fell on a staircase in the Knavesmire Stand at 17:30 BST on Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and North Yorkshire Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Officials at York racecourse said their "thoughts and sympathies" were with Mr Yates' family.
