A woman's body has been found in a field in North Yorkshire.

The discovery was made by a member of the public in the field next to the A63 in Monk Fryston at about 15:20 BST on Saturday, said police.

Officers said they could not confirm the woman's identity but she was believed to have been 51.

It is too early to say whether there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, North Yorkshire Police have said.

The road was closed while officers examined the scene and worked to establish the cause of her death.

Supt Amanda Oliver said: "I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the police activity was ongoing over the weekend."
