Trackrod Rally Yorkshire crashes investigated by police
Police are investigating whether part of a rally course was deliberately sabotaged so onlookers would be able to film car crashes.
A pile of wood chips used as a braking marker at the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire was covered up with tree branches, North Yorkshire Police believe.
It happened during stage one of the race on 26 September in Dalby Forest.
Nineteen cars came off the track as "drivers had no indication of the upcoming corner", police said.
Nobody was injured but a force spokesperson said: "Officers believe that the braking marker may have been deliberately covered up to cause a collision which people could film and are trying to establish whether any criminal offences have been committed.
"The police are urging witnesses to come forward and anyone who saw the collision may have information that can help the investigation."
