Richmond wheelie bin baby's mother traced by police

A woman whose baby girl was found dead in a wheelie bin in North Yorkshire has been traced by police.

The search began after the girl, who was pronounced dead shortly after being found, was spotted in the bin at Whitcliffe Grange in Richmond, on Monday afternoon.

Police said the un-named mother was receiving medical treatment and care.

A force spokesman said a post-mortem examination indicated the baby had been stillborn.

Officers are still making inquires to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Insp Mark Gee said: "We thank the local community and the media for their continued support and sensitivity regarding this tragic case.

"We ask residents to remain patient and calm, while the police enquires continue.

"To provide further reassurance for residents, extra police patrols are being carried out in the local area."
