Senior figures in York lose council seats

Three leading Labour councillors in York were ousted in the local polls.

Former deputy council leader Tracey Simpson-Laing, Dave Merrett and Linsay Cunningham were ousted.

The council is hung, with Conservatives gaining five seats. The Liberal Democrats and Green Party picked up two seats each.

Labour now have 15 seats, Conservatives 14, Liberal Democrats 12, Green four and there are two Independents.
