A former University Challenge contestant accused of rape is to face a retrial.

A jury at Bartholomeo Joly de Lotbiniere's trial was discharged on 15 February after failing to reach a verdict, at York Crown Court.

Mr Joly de Lotbiniere, 21, denied rape and indecent assault in connection with an incident at York University in 2014.

Judge Paul Batty QC said a new trial, at Bradford Crown Court, would be listed for 18 September.

Mr Joly de Lotbiniere, of Kensal Rise, London, appeared on the BBC 2 quiz representing York University.

He is currently at University College London.
