A former teacher at one of England's top Roman Catholic schools has been jailed for having sex with a pupil.

Ex-head of music Dara De Cogan admitted sexual activity with the girl who boarded at Ampleforth College.

The 58-year-old, from Kilburn, North Yorkshire, took advantage of her innocence and insecurity, York Crown Court heard.

Sentencing him to 28 months, judge Andrew Stubbs QC said the offence was an "abject failure of trust".
