Staff threatened in armed robbery bid at station

Two women employees have been threatened at gunpoint during an attempted robbery at a petrol station in east Belfast.

The robbery bid took place at a petrol station on the Beersbridge Road.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, went into the station shortly before 2300 BST on Thursday.

They told the women to fill bags with cash, but then fled empty-handed towards Hyndford Street where a shot was fired into the air.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
