Man 'spat' in policeman's face

A district judge in Londonderry has ordered a 38-year-old man who spat into the face of a police officer to pay £200 in compensation.

Barney McElholm imposed the order on Kevin McCallion, of Amelia Court, at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday.

McCallion pleaded guilty to three charges of assaulting police officers and to one of resisting arrest.

He was given a four-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.

As well as spitting into the officer's face, McCallion also admitted attempting to head butt and kick the officers.

The assaults took place on 19 February when police were called to a domestic incident at the Drummond Park home of McCallion's partner.
