Rape accused who met woman online is denied bail

A Lithuanian woman was raped at knifepoint, burned and had a gun put to her head by a man she met online, the High Court in Belfast heard on Monday.

Audrius Aukstuolis, 28, from Lambfield Meadows, Dungannon, is also accused of locking her in a house and beating her while wearing boxing gloves.

He denied charges of rape, grievous bodily harm and making threats to kill. He was refused bail.

The attacks are alleged to have happened over a number of days in July.

Mr Aukstuolis, who moved to Dungannon from Lithuania six years ago, claimed to have been set up in an extortion plot organised by the woman and alleged associates in the Lithuanian mafia.

He also claimed he and the woman had fallen in love online and wanted to be together, the court was told.
