Man rescued from fire in flat in Larne

A man has been rescued from a fire in a flat in Larne, County Antrim.

Three fire units helped to put out the blaze at the apartment block on the Glenarm road after the alarm was raised at 1935 BST.

The man was treated at the scene by the Ambulance Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Keith Black from the Fire and Rescue Service said it was a "difficult operation".

"When fire officers turned up they found a fire in the first floor flat of a block of three.

"We committed seven firefighers wearing breathing aparatus and those firefighters were able to put the fire out in the rear of the property.

"They assisted one gentleman out of the property and they also led three other occupants from the adjacent property out," he added.
