Man remanded over pensioner rape

A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the rape of a 74-year-old woman in Ballymena on Saturday.

Barry Johnston is also charged with aggravated burglary, possession of cannabis and a breach of an interim sexual offences prevention order

A police constable at North Antrim Magistrates' Court said they could connect him with each of the charges.

A defence solicitor told the court he would not be making a bail application.

District Judge Richard Wilson remanded Mr Johnston in custody for a further four weeks when he will appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court via videolink on 9 September.
