A 23-year-old man has appeared before Londonderry Magistrates' Court charged with 28 offences including fraud, burglary and theft.

Connor Christopher Lishman, from Rosemount Gardens, has 44 previous criminal convictions.

He is also charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her mother.

Denying an application for bail, District Judge Barney McElholm called it "an awful spree of offending".

Mr Lishman, who was arrested in the Rosemount area of the city on Sunday, was described by a police officer as a "prolific offender".

The defendant then spat at the officer who gave the statement.

Mr Lishman was remanded in custody to appear in court again on 9 September.
