A cousin of a man found murdered in his apartment in Armagh city last week has said his family are "devastated".

The body of Kevin Fletcher, 32, was discovered at the property in Castle Street at about 1145 BST on Friday.

Neilly Nixon said his cousin had been to bingo with his mother the previous evening and had not been seen by his family in the intervening period.

He said that Kevin was a "loner" with only a small group of friends and spent most of his time with his girlfriend.

Mr Nixon added that his cousin had not recently socialised as much as in the past because he had been suffering from mental health problems.

He said Kevin's family were shocked by what happened.

"You would not have thought that anything like that would ever have happened to him," Mr Nixon said.

"Saying that, there had not been murders in Armagh for years.

"But in the last number of years, that is the third murder and no-one has been caught for any of them."

Mr Nixon said that a post-mortem examination had not yet been carried out but the family were hoping to be allowed to take Kevin's body home on Monday.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in contact with Kevin Fletcher between 2230 BST on Thursday and 1145 BST on Friday.
