Successful PSNI operation targeting burglaries is extended
A police operation aimed at reducing burglaries has been extended due to its effectiveness.
Police have so far arrested and charged 25 people in relation to burglary offences since Operation Safer Homes started in August.
Forty people have been arrested in connection with burglary or breach of bail conditions.
Originally intended to last four weeks, a police spokesperson said Safer Homes was now an ongoing operation.
Inspector Jon Burrows said he was encouraged by the results but concerned that homes were still vulnerable to opportunistic criminals.
"In the past few months we have seen an increase in the number of laptops stolen from homes, especially in the Eglinton and Northland Road area," he said.
"While we do not want residents in those areas to be overly concerned we are asking that you make sure doors and windows are locked and valuable items are kept out of view"
