Derry is short listed for European Youth Capital 2013

2013 could become even more special for Derry

Londonderry could become European Youth Capital in 2013 - the same year that it will be crowned UK City of Culture.

The city was short listed out of 11 that entered, alongside Maribor in Slovenia, Goes in the Netherlands and Karlstad in Sweden.

The judges will decide the winner at the European Youth Forum on November 15.

The organisers said they would build on the City of Culture programme.

Teresa Bradley of Derry City Council said that local young people had been consulted as part of the bid.

"The vision is that in 2013 Derry~Londonderry will be the ultimate meeting place for children and young people," she said.
