A video of the Belfast Giants hockey team performing the Mariah Carey song, All I Want For Christmas Is You has become an online hit after the star mentioned it on a micro-blogging site.

Mariah Carey, who has over three million followers, tweeted about the video and posted her own link to it on Monday.

On her Twitter account she posted: "The Belfast Giants show off some festive moves in their video version of All I Want For Christmas Is You."

The Elite Ice Hockey team made their own version of Mariah Carey's festive hit to promote the Giants fixtures over Christmas.

The video starts with alternate captain, Tim Cook starting the music and lip-synching in the dressing room.

As the video continues we see players on exercise bikes, singing into a hairbrush and one is even singing in the shower (with his top off, of course) before the rest of the team show off their moves, dancing around the stadium in their hockey shirts.

At one point enforcer Mike Hoffman pops up dressed as a Christmas elf in skin tight green lycra.

On You tube the video had received over 6,000 hits via the link through the Giants' website since it was published on Monday but thanks to their famous fan, the numbers have more then tripled.

After being picked up by the star, who was made aware of the video by her fans, the spoof has been mentioned on TV shows and websites across the world.

Although the video was meant to promote upcoming fixtures the fun performance has now got a life of its own.

What seems to be amazing is the team all know every single word of the song... now who said hockey players aren't the sensitive types!
