A radiotherapy unit planned for Altnagelvin hospital in Londonderry will go ahead, the Finance Minister has confirmed.
Sammy Wilson made the commitment during his draft budget, which was presented to MLAs at Stormont on Wednesday.
There had been fears the project would be postponed or abandoned because of financial constraints.
The unit will mean cancer patients who need radiotherapy treatment will no longer have to travel to Belfast.
It is scheduled for completion in 2015.
SDLP MLA Pol Callaghan said it will "alleviate part of the treatment burden" for cancer sufferers.
"It will also ensure our region sees world class treatment and research.
"This major project will also see the creation of many construction jobs for the hard pressed building sector."
