A student from Londonderry could be about to swop the library for the catwalk if she takes the top spot in Tuesday night's final of RTE's The Model Scouts.

Tabea Weyrauch is the only contestant from Northern Ireland to make it into the last four, and must wow the fashion world in New York and Dublin if she is to win a coveted modelling contract.

But, as Tabea explained, she entered the contest quite by chance.

"It was all down to my friend.

"She convinced me to go to the audition back in January, and when I turned up I hadn't a clue it was for a TV show.

"I turned up and I was scared when I saw all the TV cameras there, but goodness did it change my life!"

Like every budding top model, Tabea and the other contestants have been jetted all over the world to experience the global nature of the fashion industry.

"It's been absolutely amazing.

"We've been to London, Paris, Sydney and New York, and it was so interesting to see what went on in the fashion industry there and to be in that environment.

"I think I could get used to it!"

While acknowledging she would love a career on the catwalk, Tabea is remaining tight-lipped about the show's result - or any prospective job offers.

"You'll just have to watch and find out."

The final of The Model Scouts is on RTE2 on Tuesday 21 December at 2100 GMT.
