A student from Londonderry has been crowned Queen of the catwalk after she was declared the winner of RTE's The Model Scouts.

Tabea Weyrauch beat off stiff competition to take the top prize of a year-long contract with modelling agency IMG, which represents supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum.

"I'm so, so happy," said Tabea.

"I've known for about eight weeks, but I couldn't tell anybody!"

But, as Tabea explained, she entered the contest quite by chance.

"It was all down to my friend.

"She convinced me to go to the audition back in January, and when I turned up I hadn't a clue it was for a TV show.

"I turned up and I was scared when I saw all the TV cameras there, but goodness did it change my life!"

Like every budding top model, Tabea and the other contestants have been jetted all over the world to experience the global nature of the fashion industry.

"It's been absolutely amazing.

"We've been to London, Paris, Sydney and New York, and it was so interesting to see what went on in the fashion industry there and to be in that environment.

"I think I could get used to it!"
