Restrictions on water in Donegal water to continue

Restrictions on water supplies in County Donegal following the severe weather are set to continue in the coming days.

Reserves have been severely affected because of what has been described as "exceptional demand".

There have been nightly restrictions in several parts of the county.

Joe Peoples, the Director of Water at Donegal County Council, urged water users to prevent wastage and leakage.

"My message is to keyholders, to farmers and businesses, to return to any vacant properties this morning and check again," he said.

"The advantage is that they would stop damage to the property, and also help conserve much needed supplies."

Donegal County Council takes a limited amount of water from Northern Ireland's reserves, but Joe Peoples said that this pipe could be closed if those on the Northern side of the border needed to do so.
