'Bomb-making equipment' seized in Derry

An SDLP councillor has welcomed the seizure of equipment which he said could be used to make pipe bombs.

Mark H Durkan said shotgun cartridges and copper wire were found by police in near Hollyhall Road in Londonderry on New Year's Eve.

The police said they recovered a number of items.

Councillor Durkan said it was "good news" that "potentially murderous material" had been taken off the streets.
