Rapper Eminem has been confirmed as the headline act for this year's Tennent's Vital festival.

Concert organisers announced on Wednesday that the American performer will top the bill at the two-day event later this summer.

A spokesperson for the festival described Eminem as "arguably the biggest music star on the planet".

"He's sold over 86 million albums and he's coming to NI for the very first time. He'll be joined by a full supporting bill to be announced soon."

It is four years since the last Tennent's Vital Festival in Belfast. More than 35,000 people flocked to see acts like The Killers, Kasabian and Razorlight.

However, the festival was cancelled in 2008 because organisers felt it was failing to attract enough high calibre acts.

This year's event has moved to Ward Park in Bangor and takes place from 23-24 August.
