Newtonabbey fire leaves baby needing medical treatment

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life after a fire in Newtownabbey left a baby needing medical treatment.

The incident happened in the Glenville Park area early on Wednesday, during which petrol was poured through the letter box of a house and set alight.

A man in the house was unhurt. The three-month-old baby had to be treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The parents and baby boy escaped the ground floor flat through a window.

The fire was extinguished before police arrived.
