Raids in Bangor and Ayrshire over £350k vat fraud probe

Two men have been arrested in raids in Northern Ireland and Scotland in connection with a suspected VAT repayment fraud thought to be worth more than £350,000.

HM Revenue and Customs Officers helped by the police carried out three property searches in Bangor in Northern Ireland and Ayrshire in Scotland.

HMRC said the arrests happened on Wednesday.

It said investigations were continuing.

HMRC's David Odd said: "These activities send a clear message to those tempted to become involved in crimes of this nature, we take tax fraud extremely seriously and will pursue anyone believed to be involved in this type of crime."
