A pipe band from Lisburn are celebrating a "grand slam" of victories and a place in the history books.

World Pipe Band Champions, the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, made piping history on Saturday.

They won the Cowal Championships in Scotland making it a grand slam of wins for the NI band.

In the past season, they have taken five major championships to win the British, Scottish, European, Cowal and World titles.

George Ussher, chairman of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (NI branch) said: "Winning five major titles back to back in one season is an outstanding achievement for any band but I'm immensely proud for the members of the Field Marshall Montgomery.

"Northern Ireland has a wealth of piping and drumming talent and I pay tribute to all who maintain this tradition at such a high standard."

Two weeks ago, the band won the world championships. Belfast City Council is now considering making a bid to host that competition.

Northern Ireland has not hosted the event since 1962 when it was staged in Belfast.
