Pipe bomb found in Laurencetown alert

A pipe bomb has been found during a security alert in Laurencetown, County Down.

It was found in the Banbridge Road area of the village at about noon on Thursday morning.

Army bomb disposal experts examined it and carried out a controlled explosion on it. The device was found to be a viable pipe bomb.

The Banbridge Road has reopened and residents who were moved from their homes have been allowed to return.

Police want anyone who saw any vehicles which appeared to be out of place or anyone acting suspiciously in the area over the last couple of days to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
