A 38-year-old Chinese woman has appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court charged with murdering her husband.

Suwei Shang, a part-time cleaner, is charged with the murder of 51-year-old father-of-two Damien Keenan, who died on Wednesday, the day after he was stabbed.

A detective sergeant from the PSNI's serious crime branch said he could connect the defendant to the charge.

There was no application for bail.

The proceedings were translated to the defendant in the dock by an interpreter and relatives of Mr Keenan were in court for the hearing.

District Judge Des Perry asked the Ms Shang's solicitor if the defendant was aware that she was charged with murder.

The solciitor replied: "yes".
