Two men arrested over 1998 murder of Thomas Lockard

Two men have been arrested in Belfast as part of a renewed investigation into a 1998 murder.

The arrests are linked to the murder of 34-year-old Thomas Lockard, who disappeared from his home in south Belfast on 25 April 1998.

His badly beaten body was found two days later at the side of a road at Raskeagh, County Louth.

Detectives in Northern Ireland made the arrests following a review of the case by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team.

The men who have been arrested are aged 50 and 51, and are being questioned at a police station in Belfast. Detectives from the Irish Republic are providing assistance.
