Man due in court over 1998 murder of Thomas Lockard

A man has been charged with the murder of a south Belfast man 14 years ago.

Thomas Lockard, 34, disappeared from his home on 25 April 1998. His badly beaten body was found two days later at the side of a road at Raskeagh, County Louth.

The accused, who is 51, is also charged with kidnap and false imprisonment. He is due in court in Belfast on Thursday.

Another man, aged 52, has been released pending a report to the PPS.

Detectives in Northern Ireland made the arrests following a review of the case by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team.
