Fire crews tackle gorse fire on Cavehill

The Fire Service is tackling a gorse fire on Cavehill in Belfast.

Up to 25 fire officers are attending the blaze, off the Hightown Road, which is spread over three acres.

Their job had been made more difficult because of the rough terrain and the location of the fire.

The Fire and Rescue Service said crews have now withdraw because it was too dangerous to continue working in darkness.

Group commander, Kevin O'Neill said: "What we plan to do is monitor the situation overnight to ensure the fire doesn't spread down to any of the properties at the foot of the mountain and reassess it first thing in the morning."
