Conall McDevitt accuses NI Water of letting down Finaghy residents
The SDLP's Conall McDevitt has accused Northern Ireland Water of letting down residents in Finaghy.
The south Belfast MLA says NI Water promised at a meeting a fortnight ago to support residents by providing sandbags and an emergency response plan in the event of heavy rain but neither materialised.
Mr McDevitt said about 20 houses in Sicily Park and Ashton Park have been flooded, and some residents have not been able to get into their homes.
He has called on Northern Ireland Water to act immediately to help alleviate the problems in the area.
There have also been complaints from flood victims that NI Water's out of hours phone number was switched off at the height of the downpour.
NI Water says it responded to a "large number of flooding incidents" and had received 2,800 calls by the time their statement was released to the media at 22:40 BST.
The company said that drainage systems were overwhelmed and were "unable to cope with the volume of rainfall".
