A prominent hotel in County Fermanagh has been placed in administration.

The Hotel Carlton in Belleek will remain open and it is hoped a new buyer can be found.

Joint administrators from accountancy firm Cavanagh Kelly said it was decided to continue trading with a view to selling the hotel as a going concern.

The Carlton Hotel, on the banks of the River Erne, was purchased by a local couple in 2006 and employs more than 20 staff.

All options to fulfil existing bookings for customers are being considered, they said.

The current management and staff have been retained to run the business.

It is not the first high-profile hotel in the county to suffer financial trouble.

The five star Lough Erne Golf Resort and Hotel near Enniskillen, which opened in 2007, was placed into administration in May 2011.

The administrators, KPMG, put the golf resort up for sale earlier this year.
