Attacks on firefighters 'awful'

A councillor in Londonderry has described attacks on emergency services in the city as "an awful state of affairs".

Stones and bottles were thrown at firefighters in two separate incidents over the weekend.

No one was injured.

Sinn Fein's Patricia Logue appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

On Friday night, emergency services came under attack while attending an arson attack at an electricity substation in Daisyfield Park.

The fire damage caused power cuts in parts of the city for a while.

On Saturday, firefighters were dealing with an arson attack on a car at Lecky Road just after 17:00 BST when they were attacked.

Patricia Logue said: "It's a disgrace that this car was set alight in the middle of a busy junction.

"Then to have emergency services such as the fire brigade being stoned is just an awful state of affairs".
