Thief threatens staff with hammer in Belfast

Thieves have threatened shop staff with a hammer during robbery near Belfast city centre.

Two men entered a pharmacy at St George's Market shortly before 17:00 BST on Thursday and demanded money.

One was armed with a hammer and threatened staff with it. The robbers stole cash and controlled drugs, including Temazepam and Diazepam.

They escaped on foot towards the Markets area. The employees were not injured but were left badly shaken.

The police have appealed to anyone with information about the robbery to contact them.

They also warned the public that the stolen tablets are dangerous to health if taken without being prescribed by a member of the medial profession and asked anyone who finds them to hand them in to their nearest PSNI station as soon as possible.
