Fire at Newtownards industrial estate treated as arson

A fire at an industrial estate in Newtownards, County Down is being treated as arson.

The Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at an unoccupied building in South Street on Tuesday evening.

Six fire appliances were also sent to the scene to bring it under control and part of the road was closed.

Paul Stoboe from the NIFRS said the building was no longer standing.

"It is an early stage of the investigation but we will be treating it as suspicious and there will be further, ongoing investigations with our colleagues in the PSNI, probably in daylight, to establish a more definite cause," he explained.
