Nine injured in Derry ambulance accident

Nine people have been taken to hospital after an ambulance was involved in a crash while taking a patient to Altnagelvin hospital in Londonderry.

A number of cars were involved in the accident near Macosquin on Wednesday.

Another ambulance took the patient to the hospital for what was non-life-threatening treatment.

The patient and crew did not suffer any serious injuries. A St John ambulance stopped to assist and took some patients to the hospital.

One person who suffered a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening, was taken to hospital at Antrim.

Other patients were taken to the nearby Causeway hospital for assessment and treatment.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it would like to thank the St John ambulance crew for their assistance.
