Rape crime unit appeals for help

Police are investigating a rape in Ballynahinch, County Down, last month.

A 17-year-old girl was assaulted in the Lisburn Road area of the town on the morning of Sunday 29 July.

Police want to speak to two men seen in the vicinity of the attack.

One man was described as having short fair hair, of slim build and was wearing a dark t-shirt with a large square printed design. He was also wearing jeans and baseball boots.

The second man was described as having dark hair, clean shaven, slim and wearing a black t-shirt, light coloured trousers and shoes.

Detective Inspector Geoff Pogue said: "We believe that there has been a lot of rumour and speculation surrounding this incident.

"This runs the risk of potentially harming a serious crime investigation. It is also very upsetting to the victim and the victim's family.

"We would ask anyone who has any information to share it with the investigating officers at the Rape Crime Unit."
