Four arrests after hijacking and attempted burglary

Police investigating a crime spree across Belfast and Templepatrick, including a hijacking and an attempted burglary, have arrested four people.

At one point, a stolen vehicle - which had already crashed - was driven along the Westlink in the wrong direction.

Officers stopped the vehicle using a stinger device and arrested one man.

They are linking the vehicle theft to an earlier attempted hijacking and a later burglary bid in Templepatrick. Two men and two women are in custody.

The incident began when a man and a woman tried to hijack a Vauxhall Astra car in Templepatrick at about 21:30 on Saturday night.

When the driver of the car called for help, the man then stole a 4X4 vehicle and drove off towards Belfast, leaving the woman that been with him behind. A woman was subsequently arrested.

The 4X4 was later involved in a collision on the Falls Road in Belfast, before being driven along the Westlink in the wrong direction.

Police used a stinger device to stop the stolen vehicle. They arrested a man in the Falls Park area.

A short time late, another man and woman were arrested after an attempt was made to burglar a dental practice in Templepatrick.

A PSNI spokewoman said officers were investigating a link between all of the incidents.

They are questioning two men, aged 21 and 23, a woman aged 20 and a girl aged 17.
