Isle of Wight arms find may be Troubles-related

PSNI detectives are assisting police on the Isle of Wight after the discovery of two firearms, ammunition and two incendiary bombs.

Police said from initial examination, it is thought the weapons had been there for several years.

They were discovered in Parkhurst Forest by a dog walker on 24 August.

"One line of inquiry is that these items are linked to historical Northern Ireland-related terrorism," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"It will be an essential part of our investigation to ascertain exactly how long these items have been there."

Detectives from PSNI Serious Crime Branch are working with the South East Counter Terrorism Unit in the investigation.
