Bogus caller warning after Newtownabbey football theft ruse

Police have issued a warning about bogus callers after an incident in Newtownabbey on Thursday afternoon.

A male caller to a house at Collinbridge Drive told the elderly woman who lives there a football had been kicked into her back garden.

He went into the house with the woman and they both went into the back garden to get the ball.

After he left it was discovered that a handbag containing cash had been stolen and four rooms had been searched.

It is thought another person had entered the house and carried out the theft.

The incident happened at about 13:00 BST.
