Teenager is kidnapped and beaten in Ballywalter

A teenager who was beaten and kidnapped by a gang of four men in County Down has sustained two broken arms, broken ribs, and a suspected fractured jaw.

The 18-year-old man was attacked with bats before being bundled into the boot of a car in Ballywalter on Sunday.

He was driven to Greyabbey where he was let out of the vehicle. Police arrested four men aged 21, 28, 29 and 30.

The 29 year old has been charged in connection with the attack. The others were bailed pending further enquiries.

The teenager has been treated in hospital for the injuries he suffered in the attack which began at about 12:50 BST on Sunday in Main Street, Ballywater.

On Monday morning, 29-year-old David Rush from Bartleys Court, Ballywalter, appeared before Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

He was charged with kidnapping, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and making threats to kill.

He was remanded in custody to appear again at Newtownards Magistrates Court on 25 September.

Detectives investigating the attack have appealed to anyone with information to contact them.
